Nvidia CEO and SK Group Chairman Discuss AI Memory Chip Cooperation in Taipei

Taipei: Jensen Huang, the chief executive officer of Nvidia Corp., met with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won in Taipei to discuss future cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) memory. This meeting was confirmed by SK Group.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the executives met on Monday in Taipei, where both were attending Computex, one of Asia's largest technology trade shows. SK Group's Facebook post revealed that the meeting was an opportunity to celebrate SK hynix reaching a market capitalization of US$1 trillion and to discuss their ongoing achievements and commitment to advancing AI infrastructure.

During the visit, Huang explored SK hynix's booth, examining key memory products like the next-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and advanced module solutions. Huang left handwritten notes on display wafers, expressing his interest in the HBM4E sample and SOCAMM module.

Nvidia has started mass production of Vera Rubin, its next-generation AI computing platform, equipped with HBM4. At Computex, SK hynix emphasized its partnership with Nvidia by showcasing their products together in an "AI Factory Zone," highlighting their collaboration in AI memory solutions.

Huang, in anticipation of his upcoming visit to South Korea, identified robotics as a promising investment area. His itinerary includes meetings with major South Korean conglomerate leaders such as Chey, LG Group's Koo Kwang-mo, and Naver's Lee Hae-jin. Industry sources suggest that Hyundai Motor Group's Euisun Chung may also participate.

Kim Taek-jin, CEO of NC Corp., is expected to meet Huang, and a closed-door session with local robotics and AI startups is planned. Huang will also visit Seoul National University to engage with AI researchers and tour SNU Robotics.

Huang expressed interest in meeting students, although arrangements are pending. His previous visit to Seoul, during the APEC CEO Summit in Gyeongju, included a notable dinner with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, which attracted attention.

Huang's visit has generated excitement in South Korea, with an online map tracking his itinerary garnering public interest.
