North Korea Urged to Halt Missile Tests Amid International Concerns

Seoul:The presidential National Security Office (NSO) of South Korea demanded on Monday that North Korea immediately cease its ballistic missile tests, describing them as a serious breach of international sanctions. This call for action was made during an emergency meeting convened to address the missiles launched from the Pyongyang area over the East Sea, as stated by presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung in a written briefing.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the unification ministry appointed a North Korean defector, Kim Young-hee, as the head of the Korea Hana Foundation for the first time. The foundation is an agency affiliated with the ministry designed to support the resettlement of North Korean defectors. Kim, aged 61, previously led the North Korea Development Institute and will serve a three-year term as president of the foundation.

In response to North Korea's missile activities, senior diplomats from South Korea, the United States, and Japan engaged in telephone consultations on Tuesday. These discussions focused on sharing information and coordinating responses to the North's recent ballistic missile launches. On Monday, North Korea fired multiple ballistic missiles toward the East Sea, an action confirmed by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff. North Korea later announced on Tuesday that it had test-fired a "tactical" ballistic missile to verify technological advancements in a critical component of its weapons systems.
