Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has engaged in discussions with Vietnamese head of state To Lam, focusing on the enhancement of cooperative relations between their nations, as reported by state media on Friday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting occurred in Pyongyang when To Lam, chief of Vietnam's Communist Party, visited North Korea to participate in celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea. This visit signifies the first by a high-ranking Vietnamese leader to North Korea since 2007.

Kim Jong-un emphasized that To Lam's visit strengthens the friendly ties between the two nations and holds additional significance on the 80th founding anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea. Lam conveyed Vietnam's intent to further reinforce the traditional friendship with North Korea and take their relations to new heights.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported an open discussion on promoting socialism in both the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Vietnam. The leaders also explored ways to expand their long-standing cooperative relations to meet contemporary needs and address mutual concerns.

Kim Jong-un hosted a reception on Thursday to welcome To Lam's visit. The Vietnamese leader's trip, which spans three days and concludes on Saturday, marks an important diplomatic engagement between the two countries. The year 2025 will be celebrated as the year of friendship between North Korea and Vietnam, commemorating the 75th anniversary of their formal diplomatic relations.
