Navy Conducts First Maritime Drills in 2025 Across East, West, and South Seas

Seoul: South Korea's Navy announced on Sunday the completion of its first maritime drills for the year 2025, spanning the eastern, western, and southern seas.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the exercises took place on Friday and involved nine naval vessels and two aircraft from the First, Second, and Third Fleets. The First Fleet conducted operations in the East Sea, the Second Fleet was active in the Yellow Sea, and the Third Fleet operated off the southern coast. The Navy detailed that the Gwanggaeto the Great destroyer and the Chuncheon frigate from the First Fleet engaged in anti-submarine exercises, live-fire anti-ship drills, and tactical maneuver training.

The Second Fleet participated with its frigates, a guided missile patrol ship, and an AW-159 maritime operations helicopter. Meanwhile, the Third Fleet utilized the Gyeongnam frigate among other vessels for their segment of the drills.

Yang Young-mo, the Navy's chief of staff, supervised the exercises from a P-8A maritime patrol aircraft, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a "staunch readiness posture through live environment training," as reported by the Navy.
