Pohang: The Navy and the Marine Corps have initiated a large-scale amphibious landing exercise in the southeastern coastal city of Pohang earlier this week to enhance their joint operational capabilities, the armed forces announced.

According to Yonhap News Agency, approximately 3,200 troops are participating in the routine brigade-level drills that commenced near Pohang, located 260 kilometers southeast of Seoul, on Tuesday. The exercise is scheduled to run for 10 days.

The operation involves a total of 17 warships, including the ROKS Marado amphibious landing ship, 19 aircraft such as the P-3 maritime patrol aircraft and the KF-16 fighter jet, and 22 amphibious landing vehicles.

For the first time, the drill will incorporate training focused on countering enemy suicide drones and employing drones for reconnaissance operations prior to landing.
