Pyongyang: North Korean Premier Pak Thae-song has emphasized the regional development initiative spearheaded by leader Kim Jong-un as the state's foremost priority, urging officials to dedicate themselves to the plans, as reported by its state media.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Pak made these statements during a groundbreaking ceremony for a construction project in Pyongwon County, located in South Phyongan Province. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the remarks were made during the event held the previous day.

During his speech, Pak underscored the significance of the "Regional Development 20X10 Policy," labeling it as the highest priority for both the party and the state. He called on officials to fully commit to the implementation of this policy, as reported by KCNA.

The state media also conveyed Pak's call for "patriotic strength and enthusiasm" to ensure that this year becomes "a new year of victory for the regional revolution." Since 2024, North Korea has been focused on regional development, aiming to construct modern industrial plants in 20 cities and counties annually. This initiative seeks to bridge the gap between urban and rural areas over the next decade.

In related developments, Kim Jong-un recently attended a groundbreaking event for a construction project in South Hwanghae Province. He has also visited other similar construction sites across the country, which is perceived as an effort to rally public support. This activity comes as Pyongyang is anticipated to host a significant party congress this month.
