N. Korea’s Kim Jong-un Expands Diplomatic Outreach Amid Party Anniversary Celebrations

Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is accelerating his diplomatic efforts during the 80th anniversary of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea, following his recent high-profile appearance in multilateral diplomacy in Beijing. Experts noted that Kim is working to break away from diplomatic isolation, a move bolstered by his participation alongside Chinese and Russian presidents at a military parade in Beijing on September 3.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim has been engaging in a series of talks with foreign leaders, including China's Premier Li Qiang and Vietnam's top leader, To Lam. These meetings are part of the celebrations for the party's founding anniversary on October 10. During his talks with Vietnamese head of state To Lam, Kim discussed expanding cooperative relations between their nations. This visit marks the first by a top Vietnamese leader to North Korea since 2007.

Kim also met separately with Li Qiang, who is considered China's second-in-command, to discuss expanding high-level visits and strategic communication between the two nations. Additionally, on the eve of the party anniversary, Kim pledged to transform North Korea into a "best socialist paradise" during a ceremony attended by prominent foreign guests, including Li, To Lam, and Russia's Dmitry Medvedev.

Earlier in the week, Kim held discussions with Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Observers believe Kim's recent diplomatic activities aim to redefine his reclusive image and enhance North Korea's presence on the global stage amidst a changing international security environment.

Experts suggest that Kim's engagement with Vietnamese and Lao leaders may indicate a move to deepen ties with ASEAN countries. During their talks, Vietnam's leader expressed a desire to boost economic collaboration and share Vietnam's economic experiences with North Korea. The discussions also included mutual support in international organizations like the United Nations and the ASEAN Regional Forum.

Observers have cautioned that Kim's diplomatic endeavors could challenge international sanctions that restrict defense and military cooperation with North Korea.
