North korea: North Korea has issued a strong warning in response to the recent U.S. approval of arms sales to South Korea, labeling it a "reckless military buildup" and promising to enhance its military deterrence.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) in North Korea released a commentary criticizing the arms deal, which involves the U.S. State Department's authorization of a potential $4.2 billion sale to South Korea. The deal includes MH-60R naval helicopters and an upgrade program for AH-64E Apache helicopters. Pyongyang views these developments as a direct provocation, prompting it to commit to strengthening its defense capabilities.
The MH-60R helicopter is a versatile naval asset used for various operations such as anti-submarine warfare, maritime surveillance, and search and rescue missions. North Korea's criticism highlights its perception of Washington's strategy to position Seoul as a key military ally in the Asia-Pacific region.
Pyongyang's statement described the arms approval as part of a unilateral military buildup by Washington, which it believes exceeds ordinary defensive requirements and could provoke countermeasures. The North's foreign ministry spokesman emphasized that these actions go beyond typical defensive demands, suggesting they are intended for military aggression against specific nations.
