Monsta X’s Shownu X Hyungwon Return with Emotionally Rich EP ‘Love Me’

Seoul: Shownu X Hyungwon, a unit from the veteran K-pop group Monsta X, has made a comeback with their second EP, "Love Me." The album delves into the complexities of love, enhanced by the unit's seasoned experience.

According to Yonhap News Agency, formed in 2023, Shownu X Hyungwon was the first unit to branch out from the six-member group Monsta X. They initially made their mark with their debut EP, "The Unseen," which highlighted their refined musical style and dance prowess. "Love Me," set to release at 6 p.m. on Thursday, is their first project in nearly three years.

During a media interview, Shownu expressed his feelings about the delay, stating, "I feel somewhat sorry to the fans because it took a long time for us to return with an album. But we prepared diligently, so please enjoy it." Hyungwon attributed the hiatus to prioritizing the group's projects before their youngest member, I.M, enlisted in the military, indicating that the timing now felt right for the unit's return.

The new release is described by the members as a project that intricately examines both the bright and dark aspects of love. Shownu commented on how they tried to capture the evolving emotions of love throughout the album.

The EP features seven tracks, including the lead track "Do You Love Me," which explores the uncertainties in love, and "Superstitious," a track that captures the exhilaration of falling in love. Both members also have solo tracks: Hyungwon's "No Air" and Shownu's "Around and Go," each exploring different dimensions of romantic struggles.

Hyungwon explained that "No Air" reflects the suffocating pain of longing, while Shownu described his track as dealing with the challenges of an addictive relationship. The decision on the lead track involved discussions with their label, Starship Entertainment, where they ultimately chose "Do You Love Me" to highlight their dance strengths.

In discussing their position alongside younger artists, Shownu and Hyungwon emphasized their mature stage presence. Shownu mentioned their unique aura, while Hyungwon noted how their performances have evolved over time.

As Monsta X recently marked its 11th anniversary, the members reflected on their shared journey and the strong bonds formed over the years. Shownu likened their relationship to that of real brothers, emphasizing the group's longevity as a combination of luck, effort, and support from fans and their label.

Looking ahead, the unit aims for "Love Me" to have a lasting impact. Shownu expressed a desire for the album to be cherished by fans for years to come, continuing the legacy of their previous work.
