Seoul: The minor progressive Justice Party on Saturday elected former lawmaker Yang Kyung-kyu as its new leader. Yang emerged victorious by securing 94.7 percent of the vote after registering as the sole candidate for the week-long election that concluded on Saturday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Yang is a former labor activist who has previously served as the vice chair of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, a significant umbrella union in South Korea. His extensive experience in labor activism is expected to shape his leadership approach within the party.

Upon his election, Yang expressed his commitment to expanding the influence of the Justice Party, aiming to transform it into a larger and more popular progressive force. His leadership term is set for two years, during which he intends to focus on increasing the party's reach and impact in South Korean politics.
