Seoul: Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) Chairman Adm. Kim Myung-soo attended a security forum on Wednesday and highlighted the importance of global cooperation to deter and respond to security threats from North Korea, the JCS said.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim made the remarks during the eighth Indo-Pacific Security Forum, organized by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and attended by senior military officials from 26 countries, including Australia and Japan. The gathering was held via teleconference, where Kim called for broader security cooperation to maintain a rules-based international order.

Kim emphasized that North Korea's threats, such as the deployment of troops to Russia and evolving weapons of mass destruction (WMD) technology, have emerged as global threats extending beyond the Korean Peninsula. He stressed the need for expanded security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region to sustain a rules-based international order.

The forum participants also reviewed the outcomes of a regional chief of defense (CHOD) meeting held last year. They discussed potential agenda items for an upcoming CHOD meeting scheduled for August in Thailand, the JCS reported.
