Seoul: McDonald's Korea announced on Wednesday that it is contemplating the exportation of its "Taste of Korea" menu to additional Asian countries, driven by the increasing global popularity of Korean cuisine and culture.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Taste of Korea initiative, which was launched in 2021, has introduced five distinctive burgers in South Korea. This effort is part of the American fast-food giant's strategy to increase its market presence in Asia's fourth-largest economy. The locally inspired burgers include the Changnyeong garlic burger, Boseong green tea pork burger, Jindo green onion cream croquette burger, Jinju pepper cream cheese burger, and Iksan sweet potato mozzarella burger.
McDonald's stated that South Korea is currently its only market where the origins of partner farms are prominently featured on menu items, setting a potential standard for its outlets in other countries. A McDonald's Korea official noted that the company is evaluating the introduction of these Korean-inspired menu items to other Asian nations based on local demand.
In addition to possibly exporting the Taste of Korea menu, McDonald's Korea plans to broaden the project's scope beyond burgers, with intentions to introduce new snack and beverage options. The company also aims to increase its number of outlets in Korea to 500 by 2030, marking a 25 percent rise from the current 400 locations.
McDonald's Korea's sales have seen a significant increase, rising by 11.6 percent to 1.25 trillion won (approximately US$913 million) in 2024, up from 1.12 trillion won the previous year.
