Daegu:A district court sentenced a man to a 45-year prison term for the murder of his mother-in-law and the subsequent abandonment of her body.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Daegu District Court delivered the sentence to 26-year-old Cho Jae-bok for committing the murder in March at his residence. The crime took place in Daegu, a city located roughly 250 kilometers southeast of Seoul. Cho was also found guilty of disposing of the victim's body in a suitcase.
The court acknowledged that the victim, aged 54, had been subjected to repeated violence, which rendered her unable to speak by the time of her death.
Prosecutors had initially sought a life sentence for Cho, who faced additional charges of abusing, monitoring, and financially controlling both his wife and mother-in-law.
