Jeju:A man in his 60s has been apprehended for allegedly murdering a woman who was under police protection due to previous stalking and dating violence incidents on the southern resort island of Jeju.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the suspect was placed under emergency arrest after the woman, in her 40s, was fatally stabbed outside a hotel in Jeju at 138 a.m. The Jeju Seobu Police Station reported the incident.
The suspect claimed during police questioning that the victim was a former lover. It was revealed that the victim had reported the man for stalking in October 2025 and had filed multiple reports of dating violence in May. In response to these reports, the police issued her a smart watch last month to alert authorities in case of emergencies and registered her as a person under protection. Unfortunately, she was unable to use the smart watch during the attack.
No restraining order had been issued against the man because formal cases had not been officially filed in response to the previous reports. The police plan to seek a warrant for the suspect's formal arrest following further investigation.
