Milwaukee:The Los Angeles Dodgers have left South Korean infielder Kim Hye-seong off their 26-man roster for the National League Championship Series (NLCS), meaning no South Korean players remain active in the current major league postseason.
According to Yonhap News Agency, The Dodgers decided to include 13 pitchers for the series, adding left-hander Justin Wrobleski, which resulted in Kim being excluded. He had previously appeared in one game against the Atlanta Braves during the National League Division Series (NLDS) as a defensive replacement. The Dodgers began the NLCS with a 2-1 defeat to the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
Kim was part of the Dodgers' roster last year as a rookie when the team won their second consecutive World Series title. Despite this, no South Korean player has achieved back-to-back World Series rings. This season, Kim played in 43 games, following 71 appearances last year, and spent much of the latter half of the season in the minors before being recalled in late September. He recorded a batting average of .259 with five steals this season, compared to a .280 average with 13 steals the previous year.
The only other South Korean to participate in this year's postseason was Braves shortstop Kim Ha-seong, who went hitless in five at-bats over four games in the Wild Card Series and the NLDS. Meanwhile, South Korean utility player Song Sung-mun of the San Diego Padres did not make their 26-man postseason roster.
