Seoul: A man in his 20s was arrested Thursday for assaulting an American YouTuber who faced public outrage for his reckless behavior in South Korea, including kissing a "comfort women" statue during livestreams, officials said. The incident highlights the growing tensions surrounding the YouTuber's controversial activities in the country. According to Yonhap News Agency, the assailant, also a YouTuber, is accused of punching Johnny Somali, an American YouTuber, in the face and elsewhere on a street in Seoul's southern Songpa district in the morning. Somali had to receive treatment at a hospital for bruises sustained during the attack. Police officers were quick to respond to a report of a commotion and detained the assailant at the scene. The situation has been escalating as some YouTubers and online viewers have threatened to retaliate against Somali for his actions. Last week, Somali was similarly beaten twice in Seoul, and a complaint was filed against him on drug and violence accusations, further compli cating his situation in the country.
