Seoul:The Lotte Giants secured a 7-4 victory against the Doosan Bears in the last regular-season game at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, with Victor Reyes setting a new Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) record for hits.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Victor Reyes went 4-for-5, including a home run, concluding the KBO season with 211 hits. This achievement surpassed his previous record of 202 hits. Meanwhile, Choi Won-jun of the KT Wiz briefly led with 203 hits last Wednesday but finished the season with 208 after three hits in Monday’s game.
The game held little significance for both teams beyond Reyes' record. The Doosan Bears had already secured fifth place and a wild card round spot scheduled for Wednesday. Their focus was on staying healthy for the upcoming important games. The Lotte Giants, initially in eighth place, improved to seventh with this win, overtaking the NC Dinos. The Bears ended their season with a record of 73-66-5.
The Giants started strong with Han Dong-hee's two-run home run in the first inning, but the Bears quickly tied the game 2-2 following an error by Na Seung-yeup. The Giants regained the lead with a solo home run by Son Seong-bin and added two more runs in the second inning, thanks to RBI hits by Reyes and Na.
The Bears narrowed the gap with An Jae-seok's run-scoring double in the third, but Reyes further extended the Giants' lead to 6-3 with a solo home run in the sixth. Yang Suk-hwan contributed a fourth run for the Bears in the seventh, but Hwang Seong-bin sealed the Giants' win with a single in the eighth inning.
The Bears utilized 11 pitchers, each pitching no more than an inning, as manager Kim Won-hyong assessed his bullpen before the postseason. Jamsil Stadium, a landmark for South Korean baseball since 1982, is set to be demolished for a new dome's construction.
