Daegu: The Samsung Lions released their injured starting pitcher Denyi Reyes on Saturday. The Lions announced their plans to sign a new foreign pitcher to replace the Dominican-born right-hander, who has been with the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) club since last year. According to Yonhap News Agency, Reyes was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right foot on Monday, an injury he previously suffered during spring training this year. Before his injury, Reyes held a record of 4-3 with a 4.14 ERA in 10 starts this season. Last season, Reyes impressed with an 11-4 record and a 3.81 ERA over 26 outings. He made a significant impact during the postseason, particularly in the second round against the LG Twins, where he allowed just one earned run over 13 2/3 innings, winning both of his starts and earning the series MVP honor. In the Korean Series against the Kia Tigers, Reyes pitched seven innings and gave up one unearned run in the Lions' 4-2 victory in Game 3, their sole win in the best-of-seven series . The Lions had renewed Reyes' contract in November but made the decision to part ways with the 28-year-old pitcher with the season still not halfway complete. As of Saturday, the Lions were ranked fourth in the 10-team KBO with a record of 36-30-1 (wins-losses-ties).
