Seoul: HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, South Korea's leading shipbuilder, announced on Sunday that it has successfully secured two significant research projects from the U.S. Navy's research agency. This achievement marks a historic milestone as it is the first instance of a South Korean company being awarded projects from the Office of Naval Research, which is responsible for overseeing science and technology initiatives for both the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the contracts involve HD Hyundai undertaking projects that aim to enhance naval vessel performance through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. One of the projects is specifically focused on developing real-time survivability prediction capabilities for naval vessels operating in unpredictable maritime environments. This initiative is expected to significantly bolster naval operations by providing critical insights into ship resilience under challenging conditions.
The second project is centered on advancing manufacturing technologies to improve productivity in shipbuilding.
