LG Uplus Sees 62% Surge in 2025 Net Profit Due to Base Effect from Previous Losses

Seoul: LG Uplus Corp. announced on Thursday a significant 62 percent increase in net profit for 2025 compared to the previous year. The rise is attributed mainly to a base effect resulting from one-off losses associated with a subsidiary in the prior year. Additionally, the company's core telecommunications sectors demonstrated steady growth.

According to Yonhap News Agency, LG Uplus, South Korea's third-largest mobile carrier, recorded a net profit of 509.2 billion won (US$349.8 million) in 2025, marking a 61.9 percent increase from the 314.6 billion won reported the previous year. The company's operating profit rose by 3.4 percent year-on-year to 892.1 billion won, and sales increased by 5.7 percent, reaching 15.45 trillion won.

In the fourth quarter, LG Uplus reported a net profit of 80.6 billion won, reversing a loss of 115.3 billion won from the same period a year ago. During the October-December timeframe, operating income grew by 19.9 percent year-on-year to 170.5 billion won, with sales climbing 2.5 percent to 3.84 trillion won.

LG Uplus attributed the improved annual bottom line primarily to the base effect linked to LG HelloVision's asset losses in 2024, which had significantly impacted consolidated earnings two years prior. The company's mobile service sales saw an increase of 4.1 percent, reaching 6.37 trillion won, fueled by a rise in subscribers and enhanced customer retention.

The corporate infrastructure segment experienced a 6 percent increase in sales, totaling 1.81 trillion won, driven by an 18.4 percent surge in sales from artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. The smart home segment also saw growth, with sales rising by 3.3 percent to 2.59 trillion won.

LG Uplus has stated its intention to focus on enhancing profitability while continuing investments in data centers and AI-based services to promote sustainable growth and increase shareholder value.
