Seoul:Facing potential early elimination from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason, LG Twins manager Youm Kyoung-youb has made crucial lineup changes in hopes of reviving his team's offense. The Twins, who claimed the South Korean baseball title last year, have lost the first two games of their best-of-five series against the Kia Tigers.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Twins and the Tigers have each tallied 16 hits in the series so far, but the Tigers have outscored the Twins 11-4. The disparity is evident in batting averages with runners in scoring position, where the Twins have managed a .250 average compared to the Tigers' .455.
In response to the offensive challenges, Youm has shuffled his lineup for the upcoming game. He has replaced rookie Moon Jeong-bin, who has struggled with a 1-for-8 performance, with Song Chan-eui in the cleanup spot. Song had previously homered in Game 1. Additionally, outfielder Moon Sung-ju will be making his debut in the starting lineup, and shortstop Oh Ji-hwan has been moved up to the second spot in the batting order.
Youm emphasized the importance of hitting to win the series, stating, "Ultimately, the key will be how well we can hit." Meanwhile, Kia Tigers manager Lee Bum-ho has also made strategic adjustments. With Twins' right-hander Carlos Carrasco starting, Lee has opted for a lineup featuring seven left-handed batters to exploit Carrasco's weaker performance against lefties, who batted .267 against him in the regular season.
Lee has also planned for a different bullpen approach, with left-handed long reliever Lee Eui-lee ready to step in if their starter, Keisho Shirakawa, struggles early. Lee aims to keep the game close until the fifth inning before turning to his high-leverage relief pitchers.
