Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has risen to 50 percent following a recent decline to a historic low, according to a poll released Thursday. In the latest National Barometer Survey (NBS), which surveyed 1,001 individuals aged 18 and older from Monday to Wednesday, 50 percent expressed positive views on Lee's management of state affairs. This marks a 1 percentage point increase from the previous survey conducted two weeks prior, where his approval had fallen to 49 percent, marking the lowest since his presidency began.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the disapproval rate for Lee's performance remained steady at 43 percent. The survey also revealed that 63 percent of respondents believe Lee should announce he will not seek re-election if a constitutional amendment is pursued, while 28 percent opposed this stance. The current constitutional framework limits presidents to a single five-year term and specifies that any amendment to extend the term would not apply to the incumbent president.

President Lee has advocated for a constitutional change to establish a four-year, two-term presidency, expressing willingness to curtail his term to facilitate this amendment if required. The survey also indicated a rise in support for the ruling Democratic Party, which increased to 41 percent, a 1 percentage point gain from the previous survey. Conversely, the main opposition People Power Party experienced a decline in support, dropping 3 percentage points to 20 percent. The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with a 95 percent confidence level.
