Lee’s Approval Rating Drops to 62.2 Percent in First Decline Since Inauguration: Poll

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating slid for the first time since his inauguration in June after rising for five consecutive weeks, a survey showed Monday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the survey by Realmeter, commissioned by a local news outlet, indicated that the positive assessment of Lee's performance fell 2.4 percentage points to 62.2 percent from the previous week. Meanwhile, the negative assessment rose 2.3 percentage points to 32.3 percent.

The pollster noted that controversies surrounding ministerial nominees during last week's confirmation hearings, along with damage from the recent torrential rains, seem to have negatively impacted the approval ratings. The survey involved 2,514 adults and was conducted from Monday to Friday last week, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points and a confidence rate of 95 percent.

In a separate survey conducted by the same pollster on 1,003 individuals aged 18 and over, the approval rating for the ruling Democratic Party saw a decline of 5.4 percentage points from a week earlier, reaching 50.8 percent. Conversely, support for the main opposition People Power Party increased by 3.1 percentage points to 27.4 percent. This survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with a confidence rate of 95 percent.
