Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung emphasized on Friday that young people have emerged as the "most vulnerable" demographic due to diminishing opportunities caused by slowed economic growth. He committed to fostering a society where young people can pursue as many opportunities as they are willing to work for.

According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee made this commitment during the "2027 Youth Budget Unboxing" event. The initiative was organized to reveal budget allocations and significant projects for the upcoming year, specifically aimed at aiding young people.

President Lee highlighted that despite South Korea's stable economic status, the slower growth rate has resulted in reduced opportunities for the youth, making them "the most vulnerable" generation. He underscored that young people should embody both the country's future and present.

"The country and our community can be sustainable only when young people can dream and turn their hard work and challenges into opportunities for tomorrow," he asserted.

Emphasizing the country's responsibility, President Lee stated it is imperative to establish a society where young people can access numerous opportunities proportional to their efforts. He stressed the necessity of generating "economic opportunities" in particular.

To achieve this, the government is channeling national resources into promoting economic growth, thereby expanding the overall economic "pie." Additionally, Lee instructed officials to revamp policies for young people to more accurately address their actual needs.

The event occurred amid the Lee administration's intensified focus on policies for young people, especially as the president experiences declining approval ratings among younger voters compared to other age groups.
