Seoul:President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has climbed to 40 percent, marking the first time it has reached this level since early September, according to a recent poll released on Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the poll was conducted by Gallup Korea from Tuesday through Thursday, surveying 1,001 individuals aged 18 and older. The results showed an increase in positive assessments of Lee's performance by 1 percentage point from the previous week, while disapproval of his handling of state affairs decreased by 2 percentage points to 50 percent.
Lee's approval rating previously stood at 40 percent in the first week of September before dropping to a record low of 37 percent in late September and early October. Among those who positively assessed his performance, 21 percent cited diplomacy as a reason, followed by economic and livelihood issues at 14 percent, and communication at 7 percent. Conversely, real estate policies, along with economic and security concerns, were the primary reasons for disapproval.
Support for Lee's Democratic Party increased by 1 percentage point to 37 percent, continuing its upward trend following a record low of 35 percent earlier in October. The main opposition People Power Party's approval also rose by 1 percentage point, reaching 28 percent.
The poll also revealed public opinion on the potential impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae, with 34 percent supporting impeachment and 39 percent opposing it. This discussion has emerged due to Cho's refusal to recommend a new candidate for the top court, despite a request from the presidential office, and allegations of improper use of official funds.
The survey's margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
