Washington:U.S. President Donald Trump expressed uncertainty regarding a potential meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during his upcoming visit to China next month. Trump indicated he was unsure if a request for such a meeting had been made.
According to Yonhap News Agency, rumors have circulated on overseas social media platforms regarding Kim Jong-un's health, suggesting he may have died after suffering a brain hemorrhage. These claims, reported by outlets such as The Sun and the New York Post, are unverified and contrast with North Korean state media reports of Kim's public appearances.
Further complicating relations, a U.S. think tank analysis suggested that North Korea might be testing President Trump's limits with increased missile launches during his second term. The analysis from the Center for Strategic and International Studies posits that Kim Jong-un is probing Washington's response to his military activities.
In a separate diplomatic exchange, Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated his commitment to strengthening ties with North Korea. In a letter to Kim Jong-un, Xi emphasized the longstanding support between the two nations.
Meanwhile, South Korea has reached out to the U.N. Security Council, urging North Korea to take responsibility for recent land mine explosions in the Demilitarized Zone, which injured three South Korean soldiers. The incident has further strained inter-Korean relations.
U.S. experts have also weighed in on the likelihood of a Trump-Kim summit, suggesting that the prospects remain slim due to North Korea's demands for changes in U.S. policy. These insights were shared during a podcast discussion involving experts from the Stimson Center and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
