Haenam:After taking the lead at the halfway point of the LPGA Tour event on her home soil, Ryu Hae-ran expressed satisfaction with her performance as she headed into the weekend.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Ryu recorded a bogey-free round of 64 during the second round of the BMW Ladies Championship at Pine Beach Golf Links, located approximately 330 kilometers south of Seoul. Her score of 13-under 131 places her two strokes ahead of fellow South Korean Kim Min-sun and American Lauren Coughlin.
Ryu's impressive round included two eagles on the front nine and four birdies on the back nine. Remarkably, she has yet to make a bogey over the first two rounds, having missed only two fairways and one green this week. Despite her strong ball-striking, Ryu noted challenges with her putting, needing 32 putts per round. She ranks highly in ball-striking stats but lags in putting.
Kim Min-sun, a two-time winner on the Korea LPGA Tour this year, is close behind Ryu at 11-under. In her second career LPGA event, Kim made eight birdies in her bogey-free second round. She expressed excitement about competing with U.S. tour veterans and aims to maintain her rhythm despite the LPGA's faster pace.
For Kim, the BMW Ladies Championship presents a significant opportunity. Winning the event could grant her LPGA membership without the need for a qualifying tournament. Kim has learned much from her LPGA peers, admiring their shot variety and confidence.
The final group for Saturday will feature Ryu, Kim, and Coughlin. Coughlin, who has already won a title in 2026, enjoys playing with Ryu and is prepared for challenging weather conditions expected over the weekend.
Coughlin stated, "The course is going to play way different. And just going to try to make as many pars as I can and hopefully roll in a few putts," as rain is forecasted for the weekend.
