Lee Highlights Connection Between South Korea’s Pioneering Spirit and Mongolia’s Nomadic Heritage

Ulaanbaatar: President Lee Jae Myung emphasized the striking similarity between South Korea's pioneering spirit and Mongolia's nomadic traditions, suggesting that this shared cultural ethos fosters strong bilateral relations and mutual understanding. During a lunch meeting with South Koreans residing in Mongolia, held at a hotel in Ulaanbaatar, President Lee called for deeper cooperation between the two nations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the president is on a three-day state visit to Mongolia, which included a summit with Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh. Lee noted that the shared dispositions of South Korea and Mongolia are a foundation for their close friendship. He explained that Mongolia's tradition of exploring new paths across the vast steppe and South Korea's innovative spirit serve as significant links enabling mutual understanding.

President Lee pointed to the vibrant Korean community in Ulaanbaatar, which he credits for fostering familiarity between the countries. The bustling Korean town in the Mongolian capital, known as "Mongtan," is a testament to this cultural exchange, with its array of Korean restaurants, cafes, and businesses.

He commended the Korean community for acting as a bridge between South Korea and Mongolia, emphasizing that both countries can now advance into a new era of strategic partnership, promoting cooperation across various sectors. Lee reiterated comments made by the Mongolian president, highlighting South Korea as one of Mongolia's most crucial partners among its 'third neighbors' and expressing optimism for deepening bilateral cooperation.

Earlier, President Lee paid respects at a memorial museum dedicated to Lee Tae-joon, a Korean independence fighter and doctor who received Mongolia's highest honor for his medical contributions. Lee observed a moment of silence at a mock tomb of Lee Tae-joon and toured the museum detailing his life and achievements.

In the museum's guest book, President Lee vowed to carry forward Lee Tae-joon's patriotic spirit into a new era of strengthened relations between South Korea and Mongolia.
