Seoul: HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. (KSOE) announced on Monday that it has secured a 545.6 billion-won (US$362.3 million) contract from a European client to construct three very large ammonia carriers (VLACs). This deal marks a significant milestone for the company as it continues to expand its influence in the global shipbuilding market.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the ships will be constructed by HD Hyundai Samho Co., an affiliate of HD KSOE, and are scheduled for delivery by the first half of 2030. This order underscores the company's commitment to innovation and meeting the growing demand for ammonia carriers, which are essential for transporting ammonia, a key component in various industrial processes.
With this new contract, HD KSOE has achieved orders totaling $16.39 billion for 142 vessels in the current year. This represents 70.3 percent of its annual order target, reflecting the company's robust performance in a competitive market. The deal not only strengthens HD KSOE's position as a leader in the shipbuilding industry but also aligns with its strategic goals for growth and expansion.
