Lee Congratulates North Korea’s Naegohyang Women’s FC on Historic Victory

Suwon: President Lee Jae Myung congratulated North Korea's Naegohyang Women's FC on Saturday for their victory in the Asian Football Confederation Women's Champions League, held on South Korean soil. The team triumphed over Tokyo Verdy Beleza with a 1-0 victory in the final at Suwon Stadium, located 30 kilometers south of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee expressed his congratulations through a message on social media platform X, where he praised the players for their remarkable achievement. He noted that the high-class matches at the Champions League showcased the significant development and capabilities of Asian women's football on a global stage.

President Lee emphasized that the tournament was not just about winning or losing, but a valuable opportunity to advance Asian sports and reflect on the core values of peace and harmony that sports embody. He also commended the North Korean players for their enduring fighting spirit, particularly highlighted in a previous match played under challenging, rain-soaked conditions.

Additionally, Lee extended his gratitude to the South Korean cheering squad for their support of both the South Korean and North Korean teams, acknowledging their demonstration of a "mature cheering culture."
