Seoul: President Lee Jae-myung urged Cabinet members to prioritize their duties to the people during his inaugural Cabinet meeting, marking the beginning of his administration with ministers from the previous Yoon Suk Yeol government.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee's comments were interpreted as an attempt to stabilize government operations following political unrest caused by former President Yoon's brief imposition of martial law in December and his subsequent ousting in April. Lee began his five-year term without a typical two-month transition due to this leadership void.

"We're all agents entrusted by the people to carry out our duties," Lee stated, emphasizing the importance of public service and dedication, despite any initial discomfort. The meeting included key figures from the former administration, such as Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Lee Ju-ho, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, and Vice Science Minister Yoo Sang-im.

On Lee's team, chief of staff Kang Hoon-sik and National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac were present, underscoring a blend of continuity and new leadership. Lee highlighted the legal responsibilities of constitutional institutions, stressing that officials must not neglect their duties.

Lee expressed his intention to ensure a swift transition for the new government to alleviate public hardships. In his brief inaugural address, he committed to uniting the nation and restoring stability after the martial law crisis.

Furthermore, on Wednesday, Lee dismissed the resignation offers from most of Yoon's Cabinet, except for Justice Minister Park Sung-jae, to maintain continuity in governance.
