Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva are set to hold summit talks on Monday, as announced by Cheong Wa Dae on Sunday. The summit is anticipated to focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation between South Korea and Brazil.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lula is scheduled to arrive in Seoul on Sunday, marking his first state visit to South Korea in 21 years. The meeting between the two leaders will be followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding and a state banquet, underscoring the significance of this diplomatic engagement.
The summit agenda includes discussions on cooperation across various sectors such as trade, investment, climate, energy, space, defense industry, science and technology, agriculture, education, and culture. Additionally, the leaders are expected to explore avenues for people-to-people exchanges, which could foster stronger ties between the two nations.
President Lee and President Lula previously met on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in Canada in June last year. During that meeting, they established personal rapport by sharing experiences of overcoming adversity in their youth, as both leaders worked in factories and faced workplace injuries during their teenage years.
Rosangela Lula da Silva, the wife of President Lula, arrived in South Korea on Saturday and met with First Lady Kim Hea Kyung. The two visited Gwangjang Market, one of Seoul's largest traditional markets, where they examined silk cloth for hanbok, traditional Korean clothing, and selected matching traditional Korean rings.
