Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni are set to engage in summit talks on January 19, aiming to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, artificial intelligence, and other advanced technologies, as announced by Cheong Wa Dae on Friday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Prime Minister Meloni will embark on a three-day visit to South Korea starting January 17. This visit marks the first time in 19 years that an Italian leader is making a bilateral summit visit to Seoul.

The summit and an official luncheon meeting between President Lee and Prime Minister Meloni are scheduled for January 19. During these discussions, the leaders are expected to explore opportunities for strengthened collaboration in trade, investment, artificial intelligence, defense, and semiconductors.

Italy holds the position of South Korea's fourth-largest trading partner within the European Union, with approximately 1 million South Koreans visiting Italy each year, as reported by Cheong Wa Dae.
