Daegu: SSG Landers slugger Choi Jeong made history in South Korean baseball by becoming the first player in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) to hit at least 20 home runs in 10 consecutive seasons. This milestone was achieved during a regular-season game against the Samsung Lions at Daegu Samsung Lion Park.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Choi hit a solo home run off Samsung Lions reliever Lee Seung-hyun, marking his 20th home run of the current season. Choi has consistently reached the 20-homer mark each year since 2016, a feat that sets him apart in the league's history books.
Before this season, Choi was tied with Park Byung-ho of the Samsung Lions for the longest streak of 20-homer seasons, as Park also achieved this in nine consecutive seasons from 2012 to 2022, with a brief stint in the United States during 2016 and 2017.
Despite missing about a month at the beginning of this season due to a hamstring injury, the 38-year-old Choi managed to reach this milestone in just his 86th game, with 15 games still remaining in the season. Choi had already made headlines last year as the KBO's all-time home run leader and crossed the 500-homer threshold on May 13 this year. With 515 home runs in his 21st season, Choi continues to solidify his legacy in Korean baseball.
