Sejong: The nominee to head the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport expressed on Monday his commitment to working closely with the Seoul city government to resolve any differences regarding housing supply plans.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hong Jee-sun, who is currently serving as the vice land minister, made these comments shortly after being nominated to succeed Land Minister Kim Yun-duk. Kim had encountered opposition from the Seoul city government over a proposal to utilize parts of Yongsan Park in central Seoul for housing development.

Hong emphasized the necessity of thorough consultations with the Seoul city government to ensure the effective implementation of housing policies. Speaking to reporters en route to the government complex in Sejong, he highlighted his past experience in housing and urban development policy with the Gyeonggi Provincial Government as a foundation for fostering cooperation between central and local governments.

"I will work to promptly supply quality housing in areas where people want to live, while paying particular attention to housing stability for young people and newlyweds," Hong stated. The nominee will need to undergo a parliamentary confirmation hearing before President Lee Jae Myung can formally appoint him as minister.
