Seoul: KT SAT Co., the satellite service arm of South Korea's telecom giant KT Corp., is set to launch a geostationary satellite for communications service later this week, industry officials announced Monday. The Koreasat-6A will be launched aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket from a space launch complex in Florida at 2 a.m. Tuesday, they confirmed. According to Yonhap News Agency, this launch marks KT SAT's first satellite deployment in seven years. The company last sent Koreasat 5A and Koreasat 7 into orbit, both of which are communications satellites, back in 2017. The Koreasat-6A is designed to replace the existing Koreasat 6 satellite, which is nearing the end of its 15-year design lifespan, set to complete in 2025. The new Koreasat-6A satellite will significantly enhance KT SAT's ability to deliver detailed location services throughout South Korea. This upgrade is expected to bolster capabilities for the transportation sector as well as military applications, with a focus on providing more precise locati on information.
