Seoul: Korean Air Co.'s carbon emissions from flight operations decreased by 3.3 percent in 2025, even though there was an increase in the number of flights, the company announced.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the airline's annual carbon emissions amounted to 12.18 million tons in the past year, which is a reduction of approximately 420,000 tons from the 12.6 million tons recorded in 2024. The South Korean flag carrier achieved this reduction in emissions despite a 2.6 percent increase in flight operations, totaling 189,851 flights.

The airline attributed this decrease to comprehensive fuel management strategies, which included deploying newer aircraft models, optimizing flight routes, and selecting alternate airports for short-haul flights. Korean Air also reported overhauling its operational systems to minimize carbon emissions and introducing artificial intelligence-based technologies to improve fuel management efficiency.
