Kim Jong-un Aims to Strengthen North Korea-Russia Alliance with Medvedev

Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has communicated with Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, expressing his intention to further develop the alliance between the two nations. This comes as Pyongyang continues to show unwavering support for Moscow's actions in Ukraine.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting between Kim and Medvedev, who also serves as the chief of the ruling United Russia party, took place the previous day. During their discussions, they exchanged views on mutual concerns. Kim's meeting with Medvedev coincided with the 80th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

Kim stated that Medvedev's visit would be a significant opportunity to expand and develop DPRK-Russia relations into a strong strategic partnership. He expressed hope for increased cooperation and exchanges between the WPK and Russia's party, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

In response, Medvedev praised the commitment of North Korean forces fighting alongside Russia in Ukraine. He emphasized the strong ties and trust between the two countries and highlighted the resilience of their alliance, which he described as being forged through shared sacrifices.

Medvedev was among several foreign guests invited to North Korea's party anniversary events, which included Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Vietnam's leader To Lam. A joint statement with the WPK on Thursday saw United Russia expressing solid support for North Korea's defense measures. Although the specifics were not disclosed, experts suggest this may refer to North Korea's nuclear weapons development.
