KBO Players Battle for Top Statistical Honors as Season Nears End

Seoul:Several individual statistical races in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) are coming down to the wire, with all postseason spots already secured.

According to Yonhap News Agency, KBO teams have between one and five games left in the regular season, scheduled to end on Monday. The home run race is particularly competitive, with Kim Do-yeong of the Kia Tigers leading with 43 home runs in 130 games. He missed part of September for the Asian Games in Japan but returned strong, hitting home runs in his first game back and again on Monday and Tuesday. Trailing closely are Sam Hilliard of the KT Wiz and Austin Dean of the LG Twins, both with 41 home runs. Hilliard has been in impressive form, hitting 10 home runs in September, while Dean ended a recent dry spell by homering in consecutive games.

In the RBI category, Hilliard leads with 130, but Dean and Lewin Diaz of the Samsung Lions are in close pursuit with 127 and 125 RBIs, respectively. Diaz's team has four games remaining, providing an opportunity to catch up.

The hits race is a dead heat between Choi Won-jun of the Wiz and Victor Reyes of the Lotte Giants, both with 201 hits. Reyes, who holds the KBO record for hits in a season, has a chance to surpass his own record with five games left.

Koo Ja-wook of the Samsung Lions is poised to win his first batting title with a .371 average, despite being sidelined by a hamstring injury. Victor Reyes follows with a .359 average.

In pitching, Gwak Been of the Doosan Bears leads in strikeouts with 197 and has the best ERA at 2.24. Three pitchers—Choi Min-seok of the Bears, Im Chan-kyu of the Twins, and Ko Young-pyo of the Wiz—share the lead in wins with 14. If none of them secure another win, this total would be the lowest for a KBO leader since 2013.
