Seoul: KB Bank and four other major banks announced their participation in an international initiative to test the prototype for Project Agora, a cross-border payment project spearheaded by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
According to Yonhap News Agency, the project involves collaboration with seven central banks, including the Bank of France and the Bank of England, along with 40 private financial institutions. The focus is on exploring the potential use of tokenized commercial bank deposits and tokenized wholesale central bank money to enhance the current financial system, particularly in the realm of cross-border payments.
Project Agora aims to address inefficiencies and streamline processes in international financial transactions. By leveraging tokenization, the initiative seeks to create a more efficient, secure, and transparent system that could potentially revolutionize how cross-border payments are conducted globally.
