Kakao Union Approves Strike Vote at Five Affiliates

Seoul: A labor union of Kakao Corp., the operator of South Korea's popular messenger service, announced that unionized members across five affiliates have approved a vote to stage a strike. This decision comes amid unsuccessful wage negotiations with the company's management.

According to Yonhap News Agency, unionized workers from five affiliates, including Kakao Pay and Kakao Enterprise, have supported the strike authorization vote. The union plans to reveal detailed action plans soon, as stated by a union official. The union had previously filed for mediation with the Gyeonggi Regional Labor Relations Commission after wage negotiations with management failed to reach an agreement.

Mediation proceedings for Kakao's main headquarters have been postponed, while attempts at mediation for affiliates such as Kakao Pay, Kakao Enterprise, DK Techin, and XL Games have ended without resolution.
