K-pop Rookie Cortis Unveils Genre-Bending Track ‘RedRed’

Seoul: Rising K-pop group Cortis made a striking return with their latest release, "RedRed," highlighted at a media showcase in Seoul. The track serves as the lead single from their upcoming second EP, "GreenGreen," scheduled for release on May 4. This marks the band's first comeback in eight months.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the five-member group consisting of Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, and Keonho, is known for its commitment to breaking away from conventional genre boundaries. "RedRed" is a testament to this, showcasing the band's free-spirited style and distinctive sonic texture. Juhoon explained that the song's lyrics explore themes symbolized by colors, with red representing what they wish to guard against and green embodying their aspirations.

James shared that the band intentionally removed elements that didn't resonate with them during the track's production. This process prompted extensive discussions with producers and among members, leading to a unique blend of sounds and textures. Martin emphasized the group's conscious decision to reject fixed genre frameworks, resulting in music that defies easy categorization.

BigHit Music, Cortis' agency, described the track as one that cannot be confined to a single genre, with lyrics reflecting the group's stance against external pressures and pretenses. The accompanying music video embraces realism, featuring everyday locations and minimal styling to capture the band's authentic selves.

The six-track EP "GreenGreen" includes songs like "TNT," "ACAI," "YoungCreatorCrew," "Wassup," and "Blue Lips," with all members contributing to the songwriting, choreography, and video production. Much of the album was co-produced during a songwriting camp in Los Angeles, where the group worked with renowned producers to achieve high-quality production.

James expressed his desire to create a truly raw sound by experimenting with new instruments and rhythms. He described the final track as exciting and a perfect fit, convinced it would resonate with audiences.

Cortis, which debuted in August 2025 under BigHit Music, quickly gained attention for its authentic approach. Their debut EP, "Color Outside the Lines," set a K-pop record with over 2.06 million copies sold. Pre-orders for "GreenGreen" have already surpassed 2.02 million copies, suggesting the group may achieve a second consecutive double million-selling album.

Martin attributed the band's swift rise to their focus on authenticity and their strong team chemistry. He believes these qualities have resonated with fans, contributing to their growing success.
