Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Sign Veteran Defender Kim Young-bin to Strengthen Defense

JEONJU: Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors announced the acquisition of veteran center back Kim Young-bin, a strategic move aimed at bolstering their defensive lineup after a challenging season.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim, aged 33, has been a reliable presence in the K League, having played for Gangwon FC over the past five seasons. His professional journey began in 2014, during which he also played for Gwangju FC and Sangju Sangmu FC, amassing a total of 326 matches in various competitions.

Jeonbuk, which ended last season in a disappointing 10th place out of 12 teams in K League 1, has been active in the offseason to address their defensive vulnerabilities. This includes appointing former Sunderland manager Gus Poyet as their new head coach and re-signing ex-goalkeeper Song Bum-keun, who recently returned from Japan after a two-year stint. Last season, Jeonbuk conceded 59 goals in 38 matches, recording a goal difference of -11, which ranked third-worst in the league. The club is hopeful that Kim's experience and skills will fortify their defense.

Jeonbuk praised Kim for his smart positioning and versatility, noting, "His ability to make high-quality long passes will give us much tactical flexibility." Kim expressed excitement about joining Jeonbuk, stating, "My whole career has been a series of challenges, and I've never once regretted taking them on. I am determined to prove my worth with Jeonbuk."
