Seoul: Jensen Huang, the chief of Nvidia Corp., announced his ambition to establish a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) cloud infrastructure in South Korea and globally during his recent visit to Naver Corp. This revelation has sparked anticipation for enhanced collaborations between Nvidia and Naver.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Huang expressed his vision while visiting Naver's 1784 building in Gyeonggi Province, a hub for the company's cutting-edge technologies ranging from AI to 5G networks and robotics. During a welcoming event organized by Naver Webtoon, Huang emphasized the significance of graphics processing units (GPUs) in AI development, stating, "the more GPUs you have, the more you can work and the more happy you are." He was joined on stage by Lee Hae-jin, Naver's founder and board chair.

Earlier, Naver announced its intention to collaborate with Nvidia to construct a global AI infrastructure, beginning with the expansion of its data center in Sejong, central Korea. The company plans to utilize Nvidia's DSX platform to increase the capacity of the Gak Sejong data center, starting with 55 megawatts by early 2027, with ambitions to scale to a gigawatt capacity internationally.

Naver highlighted that one gigawatt represents nearly four times the maximum capacity of its current data center, capable of accommodating hundreds of thousands of Nvidia's latest GPUs. Additionally, Naver plans to join Nvidia's Nemotron Coalition, a global initiative for AI development, to enhance its proprietary large language model, HyperCLOVA X.

The partnership will also extend to physical AI, with Naver aiming to develop a "Seoul World Model" by integrating its urban street-view data and spatial modeling technology with Nvidia's Cosmos world foundation models. Naver described the collaboration as encompassing the entire value chain, from identifying global demand to capital collaboration, with shared risks and profits.

Huang's visit to Naver is part of his broader tour of South Korea, where he is engaging with leaders of major conglomerates and researchers to explore further cooperation in AI and robotics.
