Andong: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi arrived Tuesday at Daegu International Airport in South Korea for a two-day visit, marking an important diplomatic engagement with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in his hometown of Andong. This visit is part of the ongoing "shuttle diplomacy" between the two neighboring countries.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Takaichi's arrival in South Korea is a reciprocal gesture following President Lee's visit to her hometown of Nara Prefecture earlier in the year. The two leaders are set to discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues, including the situation in North Korea and the prolonged U.S.-Iran conflict in the Middle East. The summit is scheduled to take place in Andong, approximately 190 kilometers southeast of Seoul.

Takaichi's aircraft landed at Daegu International Airport at 11:53 a.m., and she disembarked ten minutes later. She was greeted by Second Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jina and a military guard of honor. A significant security presence, consisting of approximately 170 police officers and 40 patrol cars and motorcycles, ensured her safe arrival.

Upon her arrival in Andong, President Lee warmly greeted Prime Minister Takaichi at the hotel entrance, complimenting her effort to visit the city. The two leaders exchanged pleasantries before proceeding inside for their discussions. Following their talks, they plan to address the press with a joint announcement on the meeting outcomes, followed by a banquet dinner and a cultural performance.

Prime Minister Takaichi is scheduled to depart South Korea on Wednesday morning, concluding her diplomatic visit via Daegu International Airport.
