SEOUL: Members of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) convened virtually on Thursday to deliberate on enhancing global supply chain cooperation, particularly in sectors such as chemicals, semiconductor chips, and critical minerals, as reported by Seoul's industry ministry. According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting's agenda included a review of progress in implementing supply chain cooperation, which has been activated in 11 out of the 14 participating countries. The members also evaluated plans set for 2025, as stated by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. This initiative, launched by the United States in 2022, is structured around four main pillars: trade, supply chain resilience, clean economy, and fair economy. South Korea, serving as the chair of a dedicated body addressing supply chain crises under the IPEF, led discussions on coordination efforts among member nations to mitigate potential market crises. The members explored strategies to enhance preparedness against global supply cha in disruptions, focusing on boosting the capabilities of developing nations within the framework. However, the IPEF's future remains uncertain as U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has indicated the possibility of withdrawing from the agreement, citing potential negative consequences for the U.S. manufacturing industry.
