Seoul: InterBattery 2026, South Korea's largest battery industry trade exhibition, commenced its three-day event on Wednesday. The exhibition is hosting key Korean companies and international firms to display advanced battery technologies.

According to Yonhap News Agency, nearly 670 companies from 14 countries, including the United States, Australia, Germany, China, and Japan, are participating in the event. They have set up more than 2,300 booths at the Coex Convention Center in Seoul. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, the host of InterBattery 2026, stated that the event serves as a platform for attendees to discuss the growth of renewable energy and energy storage systems (ESS) to address challenges in the global battery industry. Additionally, it emphasizes the application of battery technologies in new industries such as defense, robotics, and urban air mobility.

The ministry also highlighted that the event will encourage discussions on the battery industry's strategies in response to the trade policies of major economies affecting the sector. This includes addressing the U.S. tariff scheme and the European Union's battery regulations. During the opening ceremony, Vice Industry Minister Moon Shin-hak acknowledged the challenges faced by the Korean battery industry, including uncertainties in the electric vehicle (EV) market and global trade. He emphasized the opportunities arising from new demand and supply chain restructuring, assuring that the government will actively support domestic firms in their international ventures.
