Washington: Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun plans to visit the United States this week to discuss bilateral economic exchanges with business and government officials ahead of the launch of the second Donald Trump administration, his office said Sunday. Ahn aims to enhance cooperation in various sectors, particularly industry, trade, and energy, as South Korean firms seek stable business environments amid global trade uncertainties.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Ahn plans to leave for the U.S. state of Georgia on Monday to meet with Gov. Brian Kemp and seek the state's support for South Korean businesses operating in the region. The visit will include discussions on business challenges and efforts to bolster cooperation in cutting-edge industries. Ahn will also visit the production line of SK On Co., the battery unit of SK Group, and hold a conference with South Korean businesses in Georgia.
Ahn's trip comes at a crucial time as the second Donald Trump administration signals protectionist trade policies, including imposing sweeping tariffs on all goods. The visit aims to ensure a stable business environment for South Korean firms and to enhance cooperation with the new U.S. government.
Following his engagements in Georgia, Ahn will travel to Washington to meet with U.S. lawmakers and request their support for South Korean companies' investments and operations in the U.S. He will also engage with officials from U.S. business organizations and think tanks to exchange ideas on promoting bilateral cooperation.
