Industrial Output Stagnant in July as Retail Sales Decline and Facility Investment Rises

Seoul: South Korea's industrial output remained flat in July from a month earlier, data showed Monday, with retail sales losing ground, while facility investment advanced.

According to Yonhap News Agency, industrial production remained unchanged in July from a month earlier, based on data from the Ministry of Data and Statistics. Output in the mining and manufacturing sector, a key pillar of the economy, edged up 0.2 percent on the back of the electronic component segment. However, the output in the automobile industry fell 4.5 percent.

Retail sales, a key indicator of private spending, decreased by 2.4 percent over the period, driven largely by a decline in durable goods, including cars. Meanwhile, facility investment surged by 7.5 percent in July compared to the previous month, according to the latest findings.
