Seoul: IKEA Korea announced plans on Monday to open three additional outlets by 2027, aiming to strengthen its market presence and drive sales growth. The company currently operates six stores, including locations in Seoul, the metropolitan area, and regional cities such as Busan and Gwangju. The expansion will see new outlets established in Incheon, Daegu, and Daejeon.
According to Yonhap News Agency, IKEA Korea reported a 2.2 percent increase in sales for the fiscal year ending August 2025, reaching 639.3 billion won (US$434 million). This growth was supported by the company's omnichannel strategy, which includes its website, mobile app, and phone-based shopping services. Online sales accounted for 13 percent of total revenue. Isabel Puig, CEO of IKEA Korea, emphasized the company's focus on expanding its footprint, enhancing omnichannel capabilities, and improving services to integrate more deeply into customers' everyday lives.
The company aims to boost its e-commerce sales to 200 billion won this year, a significant increase from 50 billion won in 2019. IKEA Korea noted a trend among Korean consumers to research products online, including on platforms like YouTube, before purchasing in physical stores. This trend influenced the opening of its first Seoul location, IKEA Gangdong, last year, which is integrated into a shopping mall, unlike the traditional standalone "blue box" format.
Four of IKEA Korea's existing stores follow the "blue box" concept and are located in Gwangmyeong, Goyang, Giheung, and Busan. To better understand Korean consumer preferences, the company has been operating 13 pop-up stores in various formats since 2023.
In an effort to enhance customer convenience, IKEA Korea will introduce a next-day parcel delivery service later this month. The company also plans to expand its home delivery options with more flexible time slots and service choices. CEO Isabel Puig noted the busy lifestyle in Korea necessitates efficient delivery solutions, making it a fundamental service as the company expands.
